Evaluation of Potential Substrates for Biogas Production in Colombia using Anaerobic Digestion Systems

Increasing energy demands around the globe require alternative sources of energy. Considering large amount agro-industrial and agriculture-related activities in Colombia, generation from biomass waste is a promising option to meet needs country. Anaerobic digestion (AD) good use these wastes. In this study, several potential substrates for biogas using AD systems were identified through literature review. Vinasses, palm oil industry residues, swine manure, coffee municipal solid wastes found as AD. factors such composition, production, availability, their relationship with important Colombian economic activities, three selected perform biochemical methane (BMP) experiments. The manure (SM), mill effluent (POME), residues (CR). obtained BMP values 240, 465, 314 NmLCH4/g VS, respectively. An analysis kinetic parameters was conducted experiments, based on logistic Gompertz models. It seen that SM starts faster than other evaluated substrates. Nevertheless, overall production rate highest POME, followed by CR. had lowest yield. BMP, parameters, those collected during review can be useful design implementation Colombia. Moreover, attention should paid which have high potential.
